KVEIKJUÞRÆÐIR/SPARKPLUGS: IMPRINT eftir Veroniku Geiger.

(English below)

Veronika Geiger opnar sýningu í Kubbnum, sýningarsal myndlistardeildar Listaháskóla Íslands, Laugarnesvegi 91 föstudaginn, 17. apríl kl 15. Sýninguna nefnir hún Imprint. Er þetta sjötta einkasýningarverkefni meistaranema í myndlist á vormisseri innan sýningaraðarinnar Kveikjuþræðir. Sýningin verður opin áfram í næstu viku dagana 20. – 24. apríl frá kl. 13:00-16:00.

Veronika Geiger er nemandi á fyrra ári við alþjóðlega meistaranámsbraut í myndlist við LHÍ en áður lauk hún BA námi í myndlist frá Glasgow School of Art. Sýningarröðin Kveikjuþræðir er unnin í samstarfi við meistaranámsbraut í listfræði við Háskóla Íslands. Samstarfið hefur gefið af sér samræður milli þessara tveggja nemendahópa og skrif listfræðinema í tengslum við sýningarnar.

Í umfjöllun Erin Honeycutt listfræðinema á viðfangsefni sýningarinnar segir m.a.:

Imprint

…Veronika Geiger’s installation appears in the light of the present. Her installation uses a variety of different media to reflect on the multiple layers inherent in this historic site. She leads us from the solely analog perception of this landmark steeped in the influence of numerous Icelandic painters, towards a more current expression of the site’s presence, which is as much analog as it is technological process.

….Like an x-ray image, the solar dusk includes the viewer in its metamorphosis. The projections, as a process of light and color, are an abstraction of the place,

representing the field of the senses. The exhibition engages the spectator with works that challenge the body’s perception. Moving through the exhibition, one is engaged by scale as an experiential property of visual space. Landscape becomes exhibition becomes landscape as the space surrounds us while also containing us. Between the transparency of light and color, and the tension of the concrete and abstract, we come to a glimpse of the natural landscape that is also cultural. One doesn’t see what is there with one look; it takes many perspectives.
