Barbara Amalie Skovmand Thomsen (1980, DK) býr og starfar í Kaupmannahöfn. Hún lærði textíl- og stafræna hönnun í Danmark’s Design School, hlaut BA gráðu í myndlist með áherslu á hljóð og mynd í Gerrit Rietveld Academie í Amsterdam (2009) og MA
gráðu í myndlist frá Sandberg Institute í Amsterdam (2011). Hún hafði listamannaaðsetur
í Skaftfelli 2011.
Í verkum sínum, sem samanstanda af innsetningum, myndböndum, ljósmyndum, ljóðlist
og gjörningum, rannsakar hún tilfinningar um einingu, að tilheyra heiminum, og hvað það þýðir að eiga tengsl við einhvern eða eitthvað.
Verk hennar hafa verið sýnd á fjölmörgum stöðum bæði innan og utan Hollands, þar
á meðal í New Shelter Plan, Copenhagen, Blueproject Foundation, Barcelona, Kazachenko’s Apartment, Oslo, Rongwrong, Amsterdam and Paradise Lost Paradise

A room full of colours. There is something soft to lie down
upon as a female voice sings “Beyond the blue horizon” with
her mesmerizing voice. You are invited to join her in a karaoke version while a giant gorilla looks from a photo.
This is all included in the solo exhibition There are two in a
couple by Barbara Amalie Skovmand Thomsen that can be
seen as one big installation, which comprises sculpture, photography, music, and video.
The show is a partly sensual, melancholic-romantic and humorous treat of Thomsen’s on-going investigation into love relations.
There ARE two in a couple, and this exhibition is the partner
to Thomsen’s previous solo exhibition at New Shelter Plan in Copenhagen. Again she deals with love, lust, and longing.
