Yfirlýsing frá stjórn SÍM vegna stefnu Samhherja gegn ODEE, Oddi Eysteini Friðrikssyni fyrir hæstarétti Englands.

Stjórn Sím ofbýður framferði Samherja sem hefur nú stefnt listnemanum Oddi Eysteini Friðrikssyni fyrir hæstarétt í Englandi vegna útskriftarverks hans frá Listháskóla Íslands vorið 2023.

Það er grafalvarlegt mál að fjársterkt stórfyrirtæki ætli að nýta yfirburðastöðu sína til að „skilgreina“ tjáningarfrelsi myndlistarnema með því að höfða mál gegn honum fyrir erlendum dómstóli þar sem viðkomandi getur illa varið sig.

Stjórn SÍM lýsir yfir skilyrðislausri og afdráttarlausri samstöðu með málfrelsi og tjáningarfrelsi listamanna.

Stjórnin hvetur Samherja til að falla frá miskunnarlausri málsókn nú þegar. Systursamtök SÍM í Bretlandi hafa verið látin vita af málinu og mun SÍM hvetja þau til að beita sér í þessu máli.

Statement from The Association Icelandic Artists's board regarding Samherji's lawsuit against ODEE, Oddi Eystein Friðriksson, in the High Court of England.

The board of The Association Icelandic Artists condemns Samherji's actions. The company has now sued art student Oddur Eystein Friðriksson in the High Court in England over his graduation project from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in the spring of 2023.

It is a serious matter when a large scale international corporate firm uses it´s power and financial superiority to define and limit the freedom of expression by suing an art student in a foreign court where the student has even less means and options to defend himself.

The board of SÍM expresses unconditional and unequivocal solidarity with the freedom of speech and expression of artists.

The board urges Samherji to withdraw its merciless lawsuit immediately. The sister organizations of SÍM in the UK have been informed of the case, and we will be actively encouraging them to take swift and decisive action in this matter.
