Women for ethical Artificial Intelligence (W4EAI) Conference

Join us for an inspiring event dedicated to shaping AI ethically through a gendered lens!

On October 30, the Social and Human Sciences Sector will host, as part of its Policy Dialogue on AI Governance series, the Women4Ethical AI Conference at UNESCO HQ. The event features the Women4Ethical AI Platform, which supports the implementation of the Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, in particular the gender chapter.

The event will explore the gendered implications of AI, examining how AI technologies can perpetuate, exacerbate or, conversely, challenge existing gender biases, social norms and inequalities. If left unaddressed, unequal participation leads to increased reverberation of inequalities. Indeed, according to findings by UNESCO’s Readiness Assessment Methodologies, women experience significant disparities in terms of participation in, and access to, the field of AI, even if some progress has been made to close these gaps. This event will therefore address strategic issues to ensure better female representation in AI.

The Conference will bring together leading experts, policymakers, technologists, and advocates from around the world, aiming to develop an actionable plan to close the digital gender divide, as well as to explore the intersection of AI, gender equality, and human rights.

SHS Assistant Director General Gabriela Ramos, will lead the debate and tackle crucial issues such as: combating gender stereotypes in generative AI; genderised synthetic content; increasing women's representation in the development, deployment and use of AI; fostering the participation and positioning of women in the AI-related labour market and in AI companies; addressing gender inequalities in data, and startup funding.

The event will take place in Room XI, at UNESCO Headquarters, in Paris.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to foster dialogue, share insights, and co-create collaborative strategies to ensure that the AI technologies are inclusive, equitable, sustainable, and ethical.
