Hugmyndin að sjöundu útgáfu TORG Listamessu er innblásin af ljóðinu „Jöklar“ eftir íslenska módernistann Stefán Hörð Grímsson. Í þessu verki vekur skáldið athygli okkar á tvíhyggju raunveruleikans, hvernig við erum svikin af sjónblekkingum og að lokum sjáum við einungis fegurð náttúrunnar en ekki raunverulegt eðli hennar. Listin er líka spegill sem einblínir oft eingöngu á fagurfræðilega hughrif, yfirborðslega fegurð, forvitnilega liti og óskir áhorfenda, án þess að reyna að komast inn í leyndarmál heimsins, hvort sem það er sálarlíf okkar, flókin sambönd eða leyndardómur tilverunnar. Við forðumst oft það sem er ljótt, óæskilegt, óhentugt — við afneitum óþægilegum sannleikum. Líklega er ein af ástæðunum fyrir þessu sú að það gerir líf okkar auðveldara.

Ég óska þess að listamennirnir á sýningunni í ár vísi til flókins eðlis veruleikans í verkum sínum. Að þeir reyni að kanna hann og fanga margbreytileik hans og fallvaltleik í gegnum listina, en einblíni ekki bara á yfirborðskennda fegurð hans.

Ég hvet þig eindregið til að gera tilraunir með nýja rýmismiðla, hvort sem það eru hlutir, innsetningar, skúlptúrar, teikningar eða málverk; til að fara út fyrir núverandi snið og sannað mynstur. Mettum okkur með lýsandi hvítleika jökulsins og notum þessa orku til að finna nýja sköpunarleið, sem og til að finna sjálfan þig, þitt sanna sjálf.

TORG – Reykjavík Art Fair will be held for the seventh time from 3-12 October 2025 at Hlöðuloftið, Korpúlfsstaðir.

The concept of the seventh edition of TORG exhibition is inspired by a poem entitled “Glaciers” by Icelandic modernist Stefán Hörður Grímsson. In this work the poet draws our attention to the duality of reality, how we are deceived by optical illusions, and ultimately the beauty of the natural world and do not see its true nature. Art is also such a mirror, which often focuses only on aesthetic impressions, superficial beauty, intriguing colours and viewers' preferences, without trying to penetrate the secrets of the world, whether it be our psyche, complex relationships or the mystery of existence. We often avoid what is ugly, unwanted, unpleasant, inconvenient truth. Perhaps one of the reasons for this is that it is easier for us to live then…

I would like the artists in this year’s exhibition to refer to the complicated nature of reality in their works and attempt to explore it and capture its various complexities and dependencies through art and not just focus on its superficial beauty.

I strongly encourage you to experiment with new spatial media, whether it be an object, installation, sculpture, drawing or a painting cycle, to go beyond the current formats and proven patterns. Let's saturate ourselves with the luminous whiteness of the glacier and use this energy to find a new creative path, as well as to find yourself, your true self.

Glaciers

In summer the glaciers welcome the brightness
Shine joyfully on hot sunny days
And fill us with lies.
In winter they tell the truth
Then they don’t need to pretend
They fit in to the weather.
