Laugardaginn 4. maí næstkomandi kl. 16 opnar Anna Álfheiður Brynjólfsdóttir sýninguna “Breytur/Variables” í Sím gallery, Hafnarstræti 16. Sýningin stendur til 20. maí og er opið alla daga frá 12-16 og laugardaga frá 13-17.

Breyta er eiginleiki í efnislegu eða huglægu kerfi sem getur tekið fleiri en eitt sjáanlegt gildi. Að kalla fram hreyfingu, skynjun og áhrif í gegnum efnisleg form en á sama tíma óefnislega upplifun er vegferð mín á þessari sýningu sem ég kýs að kalla BREYTUR. Eins og setlög jarðarinnar tefli ég fram mjúkum litum efnislegrar náttúru í skák við hin annars hörðu geometrísku form. Með því að skapa hreyfingu í verkinu með undirlagi og yfirlagi og með endurtekningu forma og lína er gerð tilraun til færa áhorfandann nær verkinu. Með ósjálfráðum hreyfingum áhorfandans þegar hann horfir á verkið er eins og hann taki þátt í að skapa það. Það má því segja að verkið verði til á milli formsins og áhorfandans. Það er svo hið óefnislega sem meitlar augnablikið í stein í hrópandi mótsögn við sjálft sig.

“Breytur/Variables” er fimmta einkasýning Önnu Álfheiðar. Sýningin inniheldur um 12 málverk sem unnin hafa verið á þessu ári, 2024. Flest verkin eru unnin í þrívíðu formi, með akrýl á striga annars vegar og skornum striga hins vegar þar sem lögð er áhersla á að einstök smáatriði fái að njóta sín í gegnum upplifun áhorfandans.

Anna Álfheiður Brynjólfsdóttir (f. 1977) útskrifaðist með B.A. gráðu í myndlist frá Listaháskóla Íslands árið 2009 og M.A. gráðu í listkennslu frá sama skóla árið 2020. Síðastliðin ár hefur Anna verið að vinna með óhlutbundin þrívíð form málverksins með strangflatalist sem hún nálgast á ljóðrænan hátt. Viðfangsefni verka Önnu er að leitast við að skapa samtal milli áhorfandans og myndrammans í gegnum skynjun hans og upplifun á margþættum myndfletinum þar sem litanotkun, formgerð og endurtekning spila stór hlutverk í samspili við staðsetningu, tíma og rúm. Samhliða hefur Anna undanfarin ár leitast við að kanna mörkin milli listmiðla í verkum sínum, þ.e.a.s. milli málverka, textíls og skúlptúrs/lágmynda.

On Saturday, May 4th, at 16, Anna Álfheiður Brynjólfsdóttir opens the exhibition "Breytur /Variables" in Sím gallery, Hafnarstræti 16. The exhibition runs until May 20 and is open every day from 12 - 4pm and Saturdays from 1 - 5pm.

To call forth movement, perception and effects through material forms, but at the same time immaterial experience, is my journey on this exhibition which I choose to call VARIABLES. Like the sediments of the earth, I bring forward soft colors of material nature contrary to the otherwise rough abstract/geometrical forms. By creating movement in the work having both substrate and an overlay and repetition of forms and lines, I strive to bring the viewer closer to the artwork through movement and have her/him literally take part in creating it. With that, it could be said that the work is created between the form and the viewer. Then it is the unmaterialistic which chisels the moment in stone, contradicting itself.

"Breytur /Variables" is Anna Álfheiðar's fifth solo exhibition. The exhibition contains about 12 paintings that have been created this year, 2024. Most of the works are created in three-dimensional form, with acrylic on canvas on the one hand and cut canvas on the other, emphasizing that individual details can be enjoyed through experience with the viewer.

Anna Álheiður Brynjólfsdóttir (1977) graduated with a B.A. degree in Fine Arts from The Iceland University of the Arts in 2009, and a Masters Degree in Arts Education from the same university in 2020. For the last few years she has been working with abstract three-dimensional shapes and forms of the painting, in the geometrical spirit, in which she approaches her subject in a poetic way. The subject of the artist's works is to seek a conversation between the viewer and the works as a whole, through the viewer's perception and experience of the multifaceted image, where the use of color, morphology and recurrence play a big role in the interaction with the environment, time and space. At the same time, in recent years, Anna has striven to explore the boundaries between art media in her works. i.e. between paintings, textiles and sculptures/reliefs.
