Cairns are a common sight in the Icelandic landscape and were used as landmarks for people to find their way from one place to another.
The exhibition CAIRNS on the University of Hull Campus is an observation about the human being’s quest to find his right place in the world and his resilience to face his destiny. The sculptures themselves take on the form of human trail markers and the exhibition forms a sculpture trail, guiding visitors around specific areas and main routes stimulating thought and reflection. Each sculpture leads to the next one and helps visitors, students and staff of the university to find their way.
The exhibition will be opened by The Ambassador of Iceland H.E. Mr. Thórdur Aegir Óskarsson and the artist Steinunn Thórarinsdóttir
