Residency Rules

We have assembled this set of rules to make your stay in the residency as positive and fullfilling as possible. We thank you in advanced for observing them.

Residency period:
The granted residency period is from the first to the last day of the month.

Artists staying in the residency apartment on Seljavegur are welcome to arrive any time of the day or night. They will pick up their keys at the bus terminal in Reykjavík with instructions on how to find the residency apartment.

Artists staying in Korpúlfsstaðir will be driven by a SÍM staff member from the bus terminal to the residency apartment. Therefore these artists need to arrive during office hours or as close to them as possible (9.00-16.00). All artists arriving after 17.00 or 5 pm – or arriving on a weekend will have to take a taxi to Korpúlfsstaðir, instructions and keys will be in an envelope at the bus terminal in Reykjavik.

Residency fee:
The residency fee must be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival. For residencies lasting longer than one month, the fee for the first month is to be paid 8 weeks in advance, the fee for the second and third month can be paid on arrival.

Included in the residency fee are sheets, towels, water, electricity, heating and internet access for lap tops.
The residency fee is intended to cover the general cost of running the program. It does not constitute rent and the artist therefore does not obtain the legal status of tenant.
If two artists share a room and studio 50% is added to the residency fee.

Deposit:
A deposit of 10.000 ISK or 60 EUR must be made on arrival. The deposit is repaid at the end of the stay, provided the residency apartment is left in the same condition as when arriving.

Cancellation policy:
If cancelled 8-4 weeks prior to the scheduled arrival date 50% of the residency fee is refunded
If cancelled 4-0 weeks prior to the scheduled arrival date none of the residency fee is refunded

Guests:

Artists in residence are allowed to have one visitor staying with them. Children under 14 years cannot be brought to stay in the residency.

The guest fee can be paid on arrival.
All guests are provided with bedding and towel.

House rules:
Artists staying in the residency each time are responsible for keeping the apartment clean. There is a weekly rotating cleaning plan for the common spaces. The common spaces have to be cleaned properly, in particular at the end of every month.

Cleaning supplies and toilet paper are provided by the management.

Please be considerate and tidy up after you have used the common spaces. Do not leave unwashed household items on the tables or in the sink. The trash from the kitchen has to be taken out to the bin every day.

Please report any damages or malfunctions of the equipment and space (furniture, shower, electricity, kitchen equipment etc.). The management needs to be informed of any displacement of furniture or studio equipment.

The power supply in the apartments and studio is 220 volts. Please use adapters when using electric equipment with other voltage.

Smoking is forbidden inside the residency buildings and the use of illegal drugs will not be tolerated.

Loud noise is not allowed in the apartments after 10 p.m.  Disturbances and/or drunkenness can result in eviction.

The use of toxic fluids, in particular nitro, aerosols, petrol and benzin is not allowed. At Seljavegur there is a project space on the ground floor which can be used when working with rougher materials.

Painting or drawing on the floor and the walls is not allowed.

At the end of the month each artist is responsible for cleaning his own room and studio. The bedding should be taken off and left unwashed in the storage room.

When leaving please remove all your remaining consumables or artist materials from your room, the kitchen and bathroom or give it to somebody else personally.

Please ask for assistance if conflicts arise between the artists in the residency.
